Laboratory Staff
Dain LaRoche
received his Ph.D. in Exercise physiology from the University of Utah. He specializes in
skeletal muscle function,
human performance, environmental physiology, and has a strong interest in
winter sports. He spent the four years prior to the Olympics in Salt Lake City
testing and training biathlon, skiing, snow boarding, and speed skating athletes.
Dr. LaRoche is the director of the Human Performance Laboratory at JSC and his
research interests include the effect of aging on muscle, material properties of
muscle, and sport performance.

Lab Assistants
Stephen Roy is studying Alternative Medicine, Health Sciences, and a tid-bit of Psychology. Steve has received a student research grant from the Vermont Genetics Network to study how the nervous system adapts to strength training in young vs. old women. His aspirations include pursuing a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and he plans to further his education in the South or the West to explore new exciting places. Jennifer Dickie transferred to Johnson State College to study Biology in hopes
of going to graduate school to pursue a Masters degree as a Physician Assistant
(PA). She is a member of the Cross Country team, the Student Athletic Advisory
Committee (SAAC), Serve, and Dance Ensemble. Interests include rock climbing,
kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, singing and drawing.

Former Lab Assistants
Melanie Lussier
(Class of 2006) majored in Wellness and Alternative
Medicine and is currently serving as the interim director for this program. She has studied clinical herbalism at the California School of Herbal
Medicine and the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine and intends to pursue a
career in integrative medicine. Melanie is a
member of the Chesamore Honor Society and the National Dean's List.
Melanie received a student research grant from the Vermont Genetics Network to study the effect of the herbal supplement Ginkgo Biloba on total body oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity following vigorous exercise.

Shane Lynch
was an undergraduate Health Science student at JSC and is from Montpelier,
Vermont (Class of 2004). He received a research
stipend from the Vermont Genetics Network to investigate postural changes
following flexibility training. He is currently attending Sherman
Chiropractic College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Lindsay
Bilodeau was a transfer student from the University of Vermont and is originally
from Fayette, Maine (Class of 2004). She studied Health Sciences at JSC and is currently
completing a Registered Nurse degree at the University of Southern Maine.
Following this Lindsay hopes to complete a Master of Science degree in nursing
and become a nurse practitioner.
Justin
Crowe is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and was a Health Science student at
JSC (Class of 2004). Following graduation Justin moved back to the south and is currently
completing a physical therapy program in Texas. Justin enjoys snowboarding, the
music of Frank Zappa and rigorously following professional sports.
